How Does It All Work? What kind of writers join Ink & Income? All kinds! A member may be an experienced freelance travel writer who wants to expand to other fields to diversify their income. Perhaps they're a new copywriter who is eager to develop a flexible business plan. Possibly they're a romance novelist who wants to scale their income. Over the years, I've coached writers ranging from new graduates without any bylines to nationally-recognized, award-winning journalists. What they all have in common is a belief in the power of external accountability, an interest in making their business more profitable, and a desire to do so without compromising their artistic ambitions. How long do they last? The accountability co-working sessions are 90 minutes. They take place on:
These times and dates may be subject to change should the group express a preference for a certain day and time. I'm trying a mix of early day, mid day, and late afternoon to accomadate a variety of schedules and time zones. What happens in a co-working session? We log in, we say hello, and we share what we're going to be working on, what our intention is for that time. Then, we work together in silence (cameras on or off, that's your choice). Towards the end of the time, we reconnect, share how the work went, and end on a positive note. Can we work on anything we want during the co-working sessions? In short: Yes! You can use this time to plan your pitches, draft your articles, research your sources, organize your budget, adjust your marketing plan, and more. However, if you’re not sure what to work on, I’ll share a prompt in each session that can help you focus. I'm part of your Pitching Power Hour. Will that be a part of Ink & Income? Yes! Paid members of my writing newsletter enjoy extended content and access to the Pitching Power Hour, a once-a-month accountability co-working session that is all about supporting each other as we draft and send tough pitches. The Pitching Power Hour will be one of our three monthly co-working sessions. People who are paid members will join us for that session but not the others. When are the group coaching calls? How long do they last? The group coaching calls are approximately 90 minutes and are scheduled to take place on the last Friday of the month at 10:00 AM EST. This schedule may be subject to change depending on the group's preference. What happens in a group coaching call? Do you have a burning question or a lingering problem? Perhaps you're not sure how to go about connecting with more editors. Maybe there's a conflict amongst the members of your novel writing group. Suppose you're uncertain how to draft a new resume, refine your social media plan, or decide which conference to attend. This is what the group coaching call is for. You share your question or concern and I'll give you my honest, heartfelt feedback (just like I would in a personal, one-on-one call) and the answer will benefit both you and the other members of the group. Does group coaching actually work? YES! While you have less time to chat about your situation than if you were in a one-on-one call, you still get personal feedback and you benefit from the group setting. The other members may well have a suggestion to share with you. When you listen to their concerns, you will likely find something about their scenerio that resonates with you, helping resolve a situation you didn't even know was weighing on you. Tell me about the quarterly planning days. That sounds intense. Uh, they're intensely FUN! In my world, planning days are all about leveraging success and cultivating a sense of purpose, agency, and clarity. You'll be working ON your business, not just IN it. This is time dedicated to business planning, goal-setting, and strategy formulation for the upcoming quarter (or, in the case of the December mega-planning day, the upcoming YEAR). Along the ways, we'll have a lot of laughs and there's a positive, uplifting community environment. The dates for the quarterly planning sessions are typically announced several months in advance. What’s with the weekly email? Do I have to report in with you? Not at all – unless you want to! Your weekly reflection email is just for you. It will ask you to reflect on your progress for the week, what went well, what you are proud of, what are your goals for the upcoming week. If you’d like to write back and share your thoughts, I’d love that! But it’s not a piece of mandatory homework. What happens to the schedule during holidays? During certain times of year, such as Christmas and New Year, I'll adjust the schedule so there are no coaching calls or co-working sessions during the holidays and instead we'll have some extra time beforehand. You'll get full value for your membership AND you can enjoy your break. Throughout the year there may be times when I need to adjust the schedule and I'll always give as much notice as I possibly can when doing so. Do you send reminders for all the sessions? You bet I do. You'll get a reminder email the day before and the hour before all sessions, Zoom link included. |
